The Malt House
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Even from the outside The Malt House is a grand venue. Head inside and you’ll find the splendour continues, and is paired with a buzzing and welcoming atmosphere.
The food at The Malt House has earned a mention in numerous publications, including Hardens, the Michelin Guide and The Good Pub Guide. This, along with the pub’s great reputation, meant I was rather excited to sample the cuisine. After choosing from the varied selection of wine and ale, I ordered the crispy squid cooked in light batter, served with tangy salsa – it was a great start to the meal. My companion was equally impressed with his chicken liver parfait and brioche. For the main course, I went for hake. The fish was wrapped in prosciutto and served atop a tasty seafood risotto. My partner had steak, which was accompanied by incredibly moreish homemade chips. To round the meal off, I opted for the chocolate mousse, which arrived sprinkled with salted caramel and peanuts, and was quickly gone. Sticky toffee pudding was my companion’s choice, paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. His dessert also disappeared rather swiftly, despite his claims of not being able to eat another bite after our generous first two courses.
When the weather is warmer, take advantage of the pub’s beautiful secret garden and bask in the sunshine while enjoying a tipple. No matter the weather, The Malt House is a charming pub that shouldn’t be missed.
