Magpie & Crown
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Just a stone’s throw from the Grand Union Canal’s first lockgate, the Magpie & Crown has tradition at its heart. Here you’ll find brews from British microbreweries, as well as a selection of bottled beers and proper cider. The current management has been running the pub for over four years now and has a simple concept for the menu: the food on offer should complement and be complemented by the splendid ales at the bar. The chicken and chorizo pie is made with blonde ales, and the steak and ale pie is made with full-bodied dark or amber ales, as are the gravies for the Sunday roasts and Cumberland sausage and mash (the sausage, by the way, does actually come from Cumberland). The burgers are also made in-house and are well worth a try, as is the sticky toffee pudding for those with a sweet tooth.
