Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant
Chinese and East Asian
Since opening its doors in 1990 – to the explosion of a 30-foot firecracker and a lion dance – the Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant has continued to impress and astonish both its loyal band of diners and those popping in for the first time.
Renovated by husband-and-wife team, Lin and Lawrence Cheung, the Royal Garden is a comfortable, friendly restaurant serving authentic Chinese cuisine. Located in the Addington Hills, it boasts a beautiful countryside setting that means that, despite its proximity to the capital, it remains remarkably peaceful – making it a popular choice for weddings. If you’re planning to tie the knot, Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant can cater for you completely, from a full three-course meal to stunning landscaped gardens for those all-important wedding photos.
When it comes to food, the Cheungs are proficient. Lunchtime sees a delicious dim sum menu with all your favourites, from pork to prawns. Superb seafood on the à la carte menu sees the likes of braised lobster with ginger and spring onions and grilled Dover sole vying for attention, and of course there’s plenty of choice when it comes to noodles, vegetarian dishes and traditional Chinese chicken, pork, beef and seafood classics. It’s not just locals who love it – a number of celebrities have dined here, including Dougie Freedman, Ronnie Corbett and Ken Doherty. The surrounding parkland is perfect for a relaxing stroll before or after your meal, and from the viewpoint there is a spectacular panoramic London vista – well worth a visit.
