It is 1988 - a time before anyone even knew how to spell 'Hoxton' - and Paul Daly can be seen working in his Hoxton metal work studio, putting his passion and talent into sculpture and expressionistic art. In the 21st Century this same studio has been transformed into one of London's coolest venues: Zigfrid von Underbelly. Reinvigorated to fulfil the needs of a new modern culture, the restaurant remains true to its creator and is packed to the rafters with the history and soul of this underground studio, as well as some of Paul's original sculptures. In fact that is exactly what Paul Daly is renowned for - taking a venue beyond its original function, incorporating the spirit of the place into its refurbishment and creating, effectively, a living, working piece of art - accessible to all.

If the name Paul Daly does not ring a bell, you are sure to be familiar with the popular Elbow Rooms chain, one of the many projects on Daly's extensive CV. Since training at Goldsmiths in fine art, Paul has created a unique career for himself, branching out into all elements of design. Travelling from London to New York he has built up his expertise as a designer, even working on the worldwide high-profile U2 Zoo TV Tour. Legend has it that the first of Paul's London venues was born out of a unique friendship between himself and a young Russian-Polish blue-blooded punk, Zigfrid von Underbelly. Between them they created a space for people of all ages and nationalities to come together. Now the place to be seen in fashionable Hoxton, Zigfrid von Underbelly reflects the edgy Shoreditch scene, combining quirky hipness with a vintage feel - think leather sofas, oversized armchairs and eccentric knick-knacks galore. The food is just as eclectic as the surrounds, from American-style burgers and fries, to Middle-Eastern platters, or even a scrumptious full-English breakfast. Stay for dinner before partying the night away downstairs in Underbelly; a charming yet achingly cool underground club and live music venue. This is definitely not your typical night out. Stepping beneath the floors of Zigfrid is like entering into a living sketchpad, and the decor promotes the free flow of ideas, music and, of course, cocktails.

Just a street away, Paul's lively Roadtrip Bar is just as exceptional. With its retro-living-room style and key pieces, Roadtrip is every bit as rock 'n' roll as the bands that frequent it. Pop your favourite tune on one of their authentic juke boxes and kick back. During the day the bar serves all manner of drinks and tasty snacks, with sandwiches, salads and a fabulous New York-inspired diner. Evenings see live acts and DJs playing a mishmash of musical genres. If all that sounds like your idea of heaven, Paul's latest venture, The Workshop in the basement of Roadtrip, is set to cause as much impact in this buzzing area of London. Bespoke event management is available for all the venues from album launches, birthday and Christmas parties to a complete private hire.
