Abbey Road, home to the world-famous music studio and namesake of the iconic Beatles album, is a fitting setting for The Salt House - a vibrant restaurant and bar serving the best of modern European food. Run by some of the most enthusiastic foodies in the city, the team shows noticeable ardour for what they do. The Salt House team is passionate about using the freshest of seasonal ingredients along with their profound expertise to create dishes with wonderful flavour combinations, promising to both stun and satisfy diners.

The stylish yet unassuming interior displays crisp, clean colours and exposed wooden floors. In the upstairs lounge, you'll find classic Chesterfields, distressed wood and large gilt mirrors creating an atmosphere of executive class - it feels a crime not to light a cigar. Universally welcoming, The Salt House attracts a fantastically varied crowd. From the distinguished gent engrossed in a novel over dinner, to the couple sharing a special moment in elegant surroundings and a family celebrating a happy occasion with Champagne, the scene we beheld on our visit was one of enjoyment and ease.

Our starters - a salad of frisée, dandelion, Stilton and toasted walnuts, and a Portobello mushroom and cherry tomato Wellington - were served without delay and prompted conversations about the very palatable flavours we were experiencing. Next, I savoured delicately flavoured pan-fried trout - recommended by the staff and sourced fresh from Billingsgate Market. My companion sampled the most succulent and juicy Angus beef burger topped with blue cheese and served with triple-cooked, hand-cut chips complete with delightfully crispy skins.

Dessert was a sweet and gratifying sticky toffee pudding and an inspired carrot and cinnamon tart - perfect for those who don't have too sweet a tooth. Complementing this, we were treated to an incredibly intense Espresso Martini - which, if you get the chance, should be taken to the upstairs lounge in order to be fully appreciated in suitably stylish surroundings.

The Salt House gets everything right, effortlessly. A unique, friendly venue with a range of good quality food and drink, it makes for a refreshing change and an unforgettable night.
