Despite being tucked away on a residential street, The New Inn (as seen on Channel 4's Four in a Bed) was absolutely heaving on the Wednesday night we visited. Light and spacious, yet intimate and cosy, it strikes a perfect balance between being trendy and comfortable.

The menu was concise but diverse, offering something for everyone. The sharing platters featured various meats and cheeses and looked very inviting, however, we chose our starters from the selection of tapas dishes. I went for sinfully delicious deep-fried Brie with cranberry sauce while my dining partner had stuffed risotto balls. Never one to back away from a challenge, my companion then ordered the Full Monty from the burger menu. This transpired to be a mountain of a dish - featuring a fried egg, bacon, onion rings and cheese - to which he eventually admitted defeat with a contented smile. I opted for the rump steak which was cooked fantastically well, rendering it succulent, moist and full of flavour. It was served with gorgeous little garlic button mushrooms, fat chips and a gigantic grilled tomato.

Despite the generous portions, we couldn't resist sampling a selection of ice creams to finish - the salted caramel flavour was particularly divine. Our hosts were enthusiastic and chatty without being invasive and the service was excellent. There's no need to think twice about where to go for a relaxed evening meal or Sunday lunch. The New Inn is now also open for breakfast
