If you're looking for a quintessentially British pub in London then The Punch Bowl should be your number one choice. The second oldest public house in Mayfair, The Punch Bowl marries good old-fashioned comfort with the finest British cuisine and offers a fabulous array of single malt whiskies.

Period features have been well-retained and The Punch Bowl is every inch a warm and cosy pub with rich, dark wood panelling, large open fireplaces and coffee-and-cream coloured decor - it's the perfect setting for refined pub classics. We tucked ourselves into a candlelit recess and began our evening with roast beetroot, wild leaves, goat's curd and hazelnut salad and steak tartare with Burford Brown egg yolk and grilled onion bread. Main courses consisted of sea bream with aubergine purée, courgette ribbons, garlic and lemon confit and a 1750-ale- attered haddock with chips and crushed peas. Despite cleaning our plates, we managed to find room for a delectable vanilla pannacotta and an Eton Mess before moving over to the bar. Here you can order one of the fabulous Cask Marque ales, enjoy an incredible fine wine or sip on a first-class cognac.

Combining a warm and homely feel with superb cuisine, The Punch Bowl has become a renowned Mayfair destination. Make use of the elegant private dining room for special occasions or simply pop in for lunch and admire some of the original features of this Grade II listed house
