A handsome combination of marble, brass and green leather banquettes allows sophistication to fl ow through Lanes of London, the restaurant found within London Marriott Hotel Park Lane in Mayfair.
Before we glanced at the menu, we were eased into the evening with a refreshing, sweet Sosho Cooler cocktail and zingy Florodora cocktail with fiery ginger. The unparalled drinks offering is supplemented by an uncomplicated menu of modern British dishes.
I kicked things off with roasted cod cheeks accompanied by earthy braised puy lentils, balanced with tasty salsa verde, and my partner demolished the trout rillettes atop bite-sized crostini. Next up, my partner’s slow-cooked monkfish with wild mushroom, cauliflower and cockle shallot sauce was a dish that he didn’t want to end. Meanwhile, my colourful plate of soft pasta parcels generously filled with spinach and ricotta, accompanied by squash velouté and rosemary foam was delicious. A side plate of sautéed kale and spinach proved a splendid addition. Desserts went down a treat. The bitter chocolate tart was perfectly paired with silky smooth praline ice cream, and the crème brûlée proved a delight. Our waiter’s friendly and attentive service made the whole experience run smoothly.
A return visit to sample the afternoon tea, comprising finger sandwiches, fresh buttermilk scones with clotted cream and strawberry compote, as well as cakes and pastries, is a must.
