If a traditional pub in the heart of Mayfair is what you're searching for, then The Iron Duke in a must visit - in fact, it's one of the most laid-back establishments central London has to offer. The pub is named after the 1st Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, whose picture hangs proudly on the wall, watching diligently over patrons.

Food and drink is given plenty of thought here, with local, seasonal produce favoured and a wide choice of ales, spirits and wines stocked behind the bar. The cuisine is homemade and classically British, with a range of freshly prepared sandwiches, light bites and more substantial pub dishes made with the fi nest ingredients. Chargrilled English asparagus and pork, apricot and pistachio terrine are examples of the starters on offer, while tempting mains include London Pride-battered cod with crushed minted peas, chips and tartar sauce, tender shoulder of lamb with Jersey Royals and minted braising juices and seared duck breast, feta, courgette and pickled watermelon salad. You won't be able to resist an indulgent pudding - the sweet and creamy vanilla cheesecake and vintage ale sticky toffee pudding are deliciously decadent. The roast lunch with all the trimmings is worth coming for every Sunday.

This is a genuine gem hidden away from the busy crowds of the capital, and it's family friendly too
