Bella Italia - Bond Street
Dining at Bella Italia is always a delicious experience, and in central London you'll find plenty of opportunities to kick back and tuck into their fantastic Italian food. When we visited, the tables were filled with couples and friends enjoying themselves, tucking into delicious-looking pizzas and bowls piled high with pasta. I opted the 'dish of the day', pizza Bologna - a margherita pizza topped with Bella Italia's own beef ragu and mozzarella. My partner, who's watching his waistline, opted for a dish from the 'under 600 calories' selection - the insalata pollo e verdure featured a whole sliced chargrilled chicken breast with fresh avocado, baby spinach, black olives, roasted peppers, spring onion, baby plum tomatoes and a zesty lemon dressing. The menu also includes vegetarian and gluten-free pizza and pasta dishes, meaning there is something for everybody. Pasta-lovers will adore the selection available. Bella Italia proudly serve genuine Italian pasta from Italy's oldest pasta maker, Agnesi - and the quality is evident in every mouthful. Try the rigatoni alla norma - whole-wheat rigatoni with tender roasted aubergines infused with garlic in a cherry tomato sauce, finished with fresh basil and mini mozzarella. There are classics like spaghetti Bolognese and lasagne too; so good, they remind you just how fantastic Italian food can be. Families fear not, as there's an impressive kids' menu at only £5.25 for a main course, dessert and drink. There's no need to worry about the little ones running riot - a complimentary activity book will keep them entertained until their food is ready, and they'll certainly stay in their seats once 'Molly's Macaroni Cheese' or 'Penny's Cheesy Tomato Pasta' arrives. When it comes to dessert, Bella Italia really pull out all the stops. The torta limone - a three-layered lemon tart comprising lemon sponge, lemon cheesecake and zesty lemon custard with a pot of fresh cream on the side - is scrumptiously refreshing, but those with a truly sweet tooth won't be able to resist Bella Italia's famous sundae, The Godfather. This inimitable ice cream concoction features vanilla and honeycomb ice cream and nutty fudge brownies smothered in chocolate sauce, topped with fresh cream, wafer curls, chocolate popping candy and dark chocolate sprinkles - proof that the Italians really know how to indulge. Italian restaurants wouldn't be Italian restaurants without a comprehensive list of top-notch wines, and Bella Italia is no exception. From a white grillo from Sicily to a full-flavoured Salice Salentino Riserva hailing from Puglia, there is something to satisfy the most discerning grape connoisseur. With a superb selection of beers and soft drinks too, there's no doubt Bella Italia offers great-value, great-quality Italian dining in the centre of London - fantastico.
