Pescatori, located in London’s foodie mecca, Fitzrovia, is an independent restaurant established over 50 years ago. It specialises in Italian-inspired fish and seafood and is a consistently popular destination for locals, businesspeople and tourists.
Seated at a cosy booth within the spacious and relaxing interior, we were taken through the diverse menu by the friendly waiting staff. The fish and seafood classics are there – mussels, lobster, oysters – and meat dishes also provide options for dedicated carnivores. We kicked off with starters of grilled goat’s cheese and earthy beetroot, and the tender octopus with aubergine purée was an inspired pairing. The daily special of tagliatelle combined sweet king prawns with nutty porcini mushroom sauce to an impressive effect, while the grilled fish, seafood and vegetables was delicate, with a satisfying selection of prawns, calamari, swordfish, scallops and salmon complementing the dish.
The Italian desserts called my name; I indulged in a fantastic vanilla panna cotta that had just the right amount of wobble, served with seasonal berries to cut through the sweetness. The passion fruit semifreddo was equally delicious.
In an area where restaurants come and go, only the truly successful stand the test of time, and Pescatori looks set to remain a Charlotte Street stalwart for many years to come.
