Arriving at Whyte & Brown early one midweek evening, we weren't expecting to be met with such a packed-out restaurant. Having been led into the dining area by the inviting team, we instantly felt the atmospheric buzz and simultaneously a rising sense of anticipation. The decor was quirky without compromising on sophistication; a minimalist principle kept the retro industrial style understated, creating a unique but tasteful look.

Chicken is the hero of the menu (supported by great craft beer pairings of course), and Whyte & Brown strictly uses only free-range, having scoured the UK for the best ethical suppliers. Our starters of chicken and pancetta croquette balls with homemade smoky tomato sauce, and paté with sourdough toast were absolutely spot on - generously portioned but not so much as to spoil our main courses.

It's a good job too, as the main event proved tremendous. My partner was smug with her choice of chicken and leek burger, topped with Gruyère and served in a brioche bun, while, for me, the impressive chicken souvlaki - a chargrilled marinated kebab, with bulgur wheat, aubergine and feta salad, pomegranate, tzatziki, beetroot hummus and warm flat bread - really stole the show. We couldn't resist adding a couple of the intriguing side dishes to our order as well. After all that, we had simply come too far to fall at the last hurdle - the apple and cinnamon crumble was beyond delicious. We left satisfied new customers
