Here are some fun facts: in Japanese, 'taro' is a 'taishu shokudo', which loosely translates as 'everyday dining room'; and the owner of the two Taro restaurants is Mr Taro, who hails from Kumamoto on the southern island of Japan. With a name that you could interpret as 'Mr Dining Room', it was no wonder that Mr Taro came to London with bags of culinary ambition hoping to one day open his own restaurant. He achieved this in 1999, and, thanks to his creations being anything but everyday, opened a second branch in 2002.

These days visitors flock to the Taro restaurants to sample a fine selection of Japanese foods. Pick from one of the many varieties of don, which is a meal served on rice; ramen, a noodle soup; the sushi and sashimi selection; or a bento box, which consists of traditional assorted set meals. Both branches share very similar menus in terms of the types of meals offered, although there are different combinations and concoctions at each - a great reason to visit both
