Nestled amongst the cobbled walkways of the 14th-Century Leadenhall Market, Chamberlain's exudes charm, with classical styling and a vibrant ambience. The restaurant claims to offer the best fish and shellfish in the City - with the finest wild fish supplied by sister company Chamberlain & Thelwell - and the ethically and locally sourced ingredients are treated with the utmost respect. Executive chef and Roux scholar Andrew Jones is passionate about his craft, ensuring that every dish is refined by his talented team. The seasonal menu boasts a mix of classic French and modern British styles. Butter poached lobster, roasted wild sea bass and Dover sole are examples of the classic dishes you'll find, and the five-course tasting menu showcases the culinary flair of Andrew and his team. Furthermore, at £49.50 (or £85 with a wine pairing), it represents exceptional value.

We began our feast with delicious homemade bread with smoked roe. Our first course of cèpes galette with homemade puff pastry base was light and crispy, served with sharp and citrusy sherry vinegar. Paired with a Saint-Véran, the light fruit flavours tempered the vinegar dressing. The sautéed foie gras was deliciously rich, while the baked paupiette of lemon sole was wonderfully tender, wrapped around a crab mousse and served on a velvety butternut squash purée; it was fresh and thoroughly satisfying. The deliciously succulent Rose County fillet steak preceded our dessert and the accompanying pommes Anna were a delight. With a smooth crème caramel and baked figs in a rich Marsala reduction, we rounded off an exceptional dining experience - one that we are eager to repeat
