Think lunch during a day out at a museum must be all limp sandwiches and lukewarm cartons of orange squash? Think again. At the Museum of London, benugo challenges this stereotype, offering gorgeously fresh, Italian-inspired snacks.

Within the museum, which documents a fascinating city history via artefacts, memorabilia and photography, benugo has two cafés. Visitors can choose from warm baguettes, bruschetta or ciabatta, a selection of delicious salads and a mouth-watering array of pastries and cakes. We chose an Italian deli sandwich - warm ciabatta smeared with homemade pesto and topped with mozzarella, black olives and sunblushed tomatoes - and accompanied this with a chickpea salad and a generous serving of fresh and zingy rocket leaves. We also sampled a slice of duck terrine which was meaty, firm and flavoursome. Unable to choose from the vast array of beautifully presented sweet treats, we took our server's recommendation and followed our savoury feast with a rich, decadent and buttery millionaire's shortbread.

It was the small touches that made benugo extra special - chilled glasses for our soft drinks, for example. The staff are happy to customise a combination of nibbles according to your taste and to talk you through their selection. After a wonderful morning viewing London's historical artefacts, why not sample some of the superb lunchtime exhibits at benugo café?
