Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Hidden amid the quirky boutiques and independent art galleries of Chelsea is the sophisticated cocktail bar Eclipse. You could also head to renowned Old Brompton Road to discover another slightly newer Eclipse, which is also well worth a visit. A place to see and be seen, Eclipse prides itself on offering chic, innovative cocktails and a simple but striking food menu.
When it comes to cocktails the team at Eclipse really have thought of everything and the menu opens out into a cocktail map that charts how each drink measures on a scale of light to rich and sweet to sour. As a musician – and rock fan – I couldn’t resist kicking off with the Guns & Roses cocktail, which boasted a deliciously sour and tantalising combination of Jack Daniels, Aperol, vanilla and Champagne. My partner then enjoyed a crisp glass of Moët & Chandon, while I followed my whiskey odyssey with a Gold Digger – Johnnie Walker Black Label, Grand Marnier, homemade honey syrup, fresh ginger and a symphony of fruit juices, served in a handled jar.
The food, too, was excellent. The chicken teriyaki was rich and succulent, the spicy Japanese dumplings light, and the sharing platter of sashimi and sushi was bountiful and beautifully prepared. It comprised plump tuna and salmon pieces on a bed of dark seaweed, alongside mouth-watering chillied salmon and pesto prawn sushi, and an armada of crab and salmon maki.
