Italian food inherently reflects the Italian way of life; it is relaxed and exciting and the emphasis is firmly on pleasure. Getti is all about the flavours and essence of Italian cuisine, delivered with the character of the Italian lifestyle. Created by Stefano Fracquelli, a longestablished figure of London's restaurant scene, Getti offers simple Mediterranean cooking in two of the hottest West End locations: Marylebone High Street and Jermyn Street.

We set off to sample an evening at Marylebone's Getti, situated a stone's throw away from Regent's Park. After receiving a warm Italian welcome, we chose to sit and soak up the sun at one of the tables outside. The restaurant itself has recently been refurbished and the arrival of the new Tuscan chef has reinvigorated the menu, thanks to his combination of authentic Italian and other Mediterranean cooking styles.

A glass of prosecco set the mood and went down effortlessly as we waited for our starters: a traditional Italian antipasto plate and mussels sautéed in a tomato, garlic and chilli sauce. The Italian specialities - Parma ham, salami and real mozzarella - were all delicious, fresh and packed with flavour, while the mussels tasted as though they had been plucked straight from the sea and were complemented by a piquant sauce. Having ordered an Italian bottle of wine to accompany the main meal (well, when in Rome...), I tucked into one of Getti's house specialities - a dish of ravioli filled with cheese and spinach with a Gorgonzola sauce, whilst my companion enjoyed the linguine with clams. We had been tempted by the pizzas, which are certainly a cut above the norm, but again we trusted our loquacious host Alex and were not let down. The ravioli was deliciously al dente, simply melting in the mouth, and the linguine dish unleashed bursts of garlic and chilli, leaving a satisfying tingle on the palate.

Spoilt for choice by the Italian desserts, it nevertheless had to be a traditional tiramisu - smooth, creamy and completely indulgent. A relaxed coffee and a limoncello provided the perfect wind-down to the meal.

With a menu packed with healthy, vibrant dishes, and regional recipes from Sicily and Sardinia, Getti is exceptional at hosting any occasion - from a business lunch to a family dinner, with children's menus available, through to an express menu for theatre-goers; and a meal there will not make too much of a dent in your bank balance. The restaurant is spacious yet welcoming and intimate, with an alfresco area which can comfortably seat 40 people. Feeling the sun on our skin as we ate made me question, just for a moment, whether we were in Marylebone or Montepulciano
