Ma Petite Jamaica
Ma Petite Jamaica sits in the heart of Camden Town, a stone’s throw from the famous Camden Locks and market, and surrounded by live music venues. From its happy hour to its hearty and authentic Jamaican cuisine, it’s the perfect place to start a night out or wind down an evening.
Walking in, we were greeted by a colourful and charismatic Caribbean atmosphere. Sitting beneath bamboo and straw umbrellas, once the cocktails started flowing we felt as though we had been whisked away from the hustle and bustle of London. The Port Royal Rum Punch and Killer Doppi are two cocktails that came highly recommended, and definitely had us feeling feeling relaxed and ready to soak up the laid-back atmosphere.
For starters, we opted for a couple of seafood dishes. The chilli-battered squid was light and crisp, and came with delicious jerk mayonnaise, while the ackee and saltfish was a flavoursome and hearty dish that paired very well with our cocktails and was served with fluffy dumplings.
The curry goat was a personal favourite. The meat was perfectly tender and tasted rich without being overbearing. The level of spice in the dishes up until this point was relatively mild, but the mixed jerk grill really warmed my tastebuds. The delightfully spiced chicken wings, ribs and pork chops were packed with flavour, glazed with sticky jerk sauce and perfectly accompanied by coleslaw, fried plantain and rice and peas. We loved every bite.
The desserts on offer have a tropical flourish – coconut and raspberry parfait and chocolate cookie cheesecake served with rum and raisin ice cream are just a couple of tasty examples. There’s also a children’s menu, and on Sundays a family sharing meal offers great value.
Ma Petite Jamaica is a relaxed and vibrant place to grab some drinks and fill up on tasty Caribbean plates. Once you’ve experienced the friendly ambience, tempting cocktails and exquisite fare, you’ll want to return time and again.
