From the moment we arrived at the smart and stylish Pullman Hotel, the service was flawless. Greeted with generous aperitifs, quirkily served with a glass of peppered popcorn, we sat down to peruse the menu at the Golden Arrow restaurant.

We were offered a choice selection of modern European dishes, including meat and fish platters prepared at the on-site Josper Grill. We began our meal with charcuterie and risotto nero with calamari and squid-ink. The gorgeous, smoky flavour of the fish perfectly complemented the rich and creamy rice. Côte de boeuf for two came next - generous and succulent and accompanied by Portobello mushrooms, beefsteak tomatoes and, of course, chunky chips. Dessert arrived in the form of two fingers of pleasantly light almond cake, and sweet strawberry mousse. Our delightful waitress also recommended the intriguing saffron ice cream and Maury dessert wine - both were simply divine.

Three times the length of the food menu, the Golden Arrow's drinks list is well worth examining; it displays a clear passion shared by the expert staff. Indeed, each dish here has its own accompanying wine recommendation and guests can opt to preorder a 50ml sample to accompany each course. If you fancy fine wine and expertly cooked food in a chic yet friendly setting, look no further than Golden Arrow.
