Two Brothers fish restaurant has a distinctive, nostalgic charm. When we visited, the place was packed with happy-looking families enjoying heartylooking dishes. This, along with the smart-casual style of the decor and superfriendly staff, immediately put us at ease.

As children of the 80s, we squealed with impish delight when we saw the menu, which boasted long-forgotten favourites such as prawn cocktail and Knickerbokerglory. I began with haddock 'smokies' - succulent chunks of smoked fish served in a cheese sauce. These came with chunks of French bread to mop it all up with, which I did with great pleasure. My companion's citrusy ceviche went down equally well.

I chose a halibut steak from the specials menu for my main, which was meaty and flavoursome and served with deliciously creamy coleslaw and a mountain of chips. My dining companion had crisp, juicy cod goujons, also served with a generous helping of chips. Despite being full to bursting, we couldn't resist the offer of an ice cream sundae to complete our meal. When it arrived it didn't disappoint - fruity strawberry sauce, creamy vanilla ice cream and a pretty swirl of whipped cream.

A fun, family-friendly restaurant and takeaway, whose dishes are fresh, flavoursome and favourably priced. For straight-forward food, perfectly prepared, head to Two Brothers
