Bretts Country Restaurant
Just a short drive from the city of Chelmsford, Bretts Country Restaurant is open seven days a week, offering delicious food throughout the day. This family-run restaurant offers a wide range of reasonably priced food, serving popular crowd-pleasing options throughout the day. We visited for Sunday lunch and the dining room was buzzing with chattering guests. I opted for the soup of the day, which was a flavoursome broccoli and Stilton special. I couldn’t resist following with the roast pork with all the trimmings – head chef John certainly doesn’t skimp on portions. My main course was excellent, yet I still found room for traditional Spotted Dick and custard.
If you want to try something different, there’s plenty of choice; my dining partner had the slow-roasted lamb shank, which was served with lashings of mint gravy, creamy mash and seasonal vegetables, and was simply divine. For an extra-special night out, this restaurant hosts regular entertainment events, which include a four-course meal. You can find a schedule on Bretts’ website. John, Staci and their friendly front-of-house staff make you feel welcome and well catered for, so it’s no surprise this is a popular destination all year round.
