The Cork House
Housed in a stylish building in Stansted Mountfitchet, The Cork House is a wine bar and restaurant that has become a focal point for local foodies. Head upstairs to the bistro, where you’ll find beautifully presented food on a menu that’s constantly evolving. The lower level is dedicated to a sleek, attractive bar that’s the perfect place to unwind.
If you’re visiting for a few tipples in the bar, you can also order from the small plates menu to get a taste of what the bistro offers. We recommend booking a table upstairs though, to really make the most of this foodie favourite. Start with pork belly in honey and soy sauce, or perhaps share an antipasti board of meats and olives with balsamic and homemade bread. Main courses are varied, with something for everyone in your dining party. The halloumi burger with sweet potato fries is always popular, as is the paprika chicken breast served with a ragu of mushrooms, chorizo and peas. Seafoodlovers are sure to enjoy the pan-fried fish of the day, while vegetarians can warm up with a delicious veggie curry. For something really special, why not share the lamb shoulder – for two to four diners – served with Dauphinoise potatoes, seasonal veg and mint sauce? If the hearty portions have left you with little room for something sweet, round things off with a mini dessert alongside a coffee or tea. Choose from sticky toffee pudding with brandy snap and custard, chocolate and Guinness cake or a mixed berry meringue. The Sunday lunch menu is equally delicious, with a sumptuous selection of meats including pork belly and crackling, served with seasonal veg, roasties and a Yorkshire pudding.
