The Eight Bells' food, service and ambience are all spot on. On our visit, we were seated in the stunning characterful 16th-century wool barn, which boasts magnificent beams. My carrot, orange and coriander soup and my companion's steamed River Deben mussels, with cider, smoked bacon, cream and curly kale, showcased the freshest ingredients and set expectations high for our next course. My friend couldn't resist the succulent rump steak - which was cooked to perfection - with a baked field mushroom, grilled tomatoes, hand-cut chunky chips and peppercorn sauce, while I opted for the slow-roasted Dingley Dell pork belly and braised cheek with pearl barley, celeriac, Swiss chard, prunes and cider jus. Both were absolutely delightful. To finish, the Millionaire's Mousse, an indulgent concoction of caramel mousse and chocolate jelly on a buttery shortbread biscuit base, served with salted caramel ice cream and chocolate-coated honeycomb, was devilishly decadent
