The Coach & Horses
The spacious and relaxed interior of exposed brick and beams at The Coach & Horses oozes English country pub charm. This dog-friendly venue is warm and welcoming, with a central bar boasting a fine range of gins, and CAMRA members sipping real ale at the tables. With a lounge bar, restaurant area, private function room and garden, there’s plenty of room to kick back, drink or dine. There’s also free Wi-Fi, which is great for those looking for a relaxed space in which to catch up on some work.
The homemade food takes centre stage at this pub. The team strives to serve high-quality and excellent-value food – every Friday night steaks are the speciality, while on Sunday, lamb, pork and beef roasts top the menu. We passed on the fine selection of meat, vegetarian sharing plates and meze, plumping for Cheddar-stuffed field mushrooms with mustard crumbs, and a divine seafood chowder to start. Our generous mains of venison burger topped with smoked bacon and red onion, and a 10oz gammon steak with fried eggs and hand-cut chips were delicious. Our enjoyable meal ended with us devouring homemade Pavlova and lemon posset puddings.
All of this shows what a top chef and friendly staff can add to an already special local boozer.
