Located within the Radisson Blu Hotel at Stansted Airport, the New York Grill Bar is a real find. Inside, it's modern yet warm - think cosy jazz club - and features luxurious cream upholstered walls, intimate tables, unobtrusive lighting and soothing background music.
The restaurant specialises in meat dishes, with its steaks and enormous racks of ribs proving especially popular. I opted for crabcakes for my first course - I can see why they are a favourite among customers - while my companion went for the potted shredded pork. For mains we were drawn to the chicken in barbecue sauce with salad and blue-cheese dressing, and the American strip steak with peppercorn sauce, salad and French dressing; both came with chunky fries.
The presentation was beautiful, with the food artistically arranged on slate platters. It was almost a shame to eat it, but eat it we did and with relish. We rounded off our meal with a cheese platter for him and the most enormous serving of chocolate parfait with caramelised pecan nuts and Southern Comfort syrup for me.
