Beth Chatto is a renowned British gardener, a 10-time Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner who has written many infl uential gardening books. She’s now in her 94th year, and her beautiful gardens are a must-visit for keen gardeners and those looking for a pleasant day out in the fresh air. The on-site tearoom was built in 2006, and boasts views over the inspiring Gravel Garden, which is world-renowned for never being watered and a joy to behold, whatever the season. With this wonderful view fl ourishing throughout the year, the tearoom is also a pleasure to visit every day, only closing for two weeks over Christmas.

The home-cooked delights include a tempting breakfast selection, light lunches and teas, mouth-watering cakes, and giant scones served with Tiptree jam. There are plenty of gluten-free options, while more specific dietary requirements can be catered to when booked ahead. The tearoom is also licensed, so a glass of summer Pimm’s or winter mulled wine is a must when the right season calls. I can’t think of a better place to hold a summer party, and you also can hire the gardens and tearoom for events and wedding receptions. The team at this family-run business is passionate about quality and has even developed Beth Chatto tea and coffee blends. All ingredients are locally sourced, refl ecting the sustainable ethos of working with nature to achieve the best outcome.
