The Meating Room
The ethos at this delightful family-run business is to only serve food that they and their children would want to eat themselves, with no hidden additives or chemicals. The meat in the homemade burgers is 100-per-cent traceable, collected directly from a local farm and always used fresh, never from frozen. Fruit and vegetables are provided by a local supplier and the burger buns are baked specially to a chosen recipe and delivered every morning. Even the sauces, with the exception of the mayonnaise and ketchup, are prepared from scratch. This attention to quality ingredients really shows in the flavour of the food. The house special burger, the Meating Room Burger, is a popular favourite, featuring a hand-crafted beef patty, gem lettuce, grilled beef tomato, red onion, Applewood smoked Cheddar, turkey bacon and barbecue chilli sauce.
A similarly ethical approach applies to the drinks. Top in the popularity stakes are the homemade milkshakes, which come in a tempting range of flavours including Tahitian vanilla, peanut butter and the best-selling salted caramel. You can bring your own bottled drinks and there’s also a selection of posh pops provided by small, independent producers, such as cola from Dalston Cola, raspberry lemonade from Lovely Drinks and cream soda from Soda Folk, based in St Albans itself.
