The Foragers is a group of hunter-gatherers based in St Albans. They forage food from the wild and cook their findings up at The Verulam Arms – a cosy Victorian pub in the shadow of St Albans Cathedral.
As well as serving a menu of locally hunted game and seasonally foraged fruit, plants and mushrooms, the pub offers a wide selection of craft beers and real ales – there are 14 taps in total, including beer brewed on-site in The Foragers’ microbrewery. There’s also a range of boutique spirits, and wines from small European producers.
Eager to share their love of the wild, The Foragers lead regular expeditions into the countryside to show their customers how to find and identify wild food. They then return to The Verulam Arms for a wild feast, during which the group gets to taste all of the wild plants they encountered on the walk.
While designing the wild cocktail menu at The Verulam Arms, The Foragers also created some unique liqueurs and syrups from foraged ingredients, which have proven so popular they are now for sale in bottles at the pub and online. As well as these products, The Foragers also offer packaged seasonings, salts and chutneys, all of which are made using foraged plants to allow guests to take home a souvenir after their delicious dinner.
