The Brasserie at Sopwell House
Situated within the magnificent Sopwell House and boasting views across the manicured gardens, The Brasserie offers an impressive menu with a selection of dishes ‘from the fire’ which are cooked in a Mibrasa charcoal oven, alongside salads, burgers and plenty more besides. The dining area is light and airy with a modern feel and vibrant atmosphere, which is enhanced by the open plan kitchen where you can see your food being prepared.
When we visited, the restaurant was bustling, indicating that locals regard it as a great place to enjoy expertly prepared food in informal surrounds. I started with a well-presented, freshly prepared gravadlax in lemon and mustard marinade, while my partner opted for a classic prawn cocktail, full of juicy prawns and enhanced with mango. We followed with the house burger and rib-eye steak. These meats, grilled on an open fire, were succulent, flavoursome, tender and altogether delicious. They were served with the usual accompaniments, and the portions were generous. A pistachio crème brûlée with almond biscotti and tiramisu topped with crushed Amaretti finished off the meal perfectly.
