The Brasserie at Sopwell House
Situated within the magnificent Sopwell House and boasting views across the manicured gardens, The Brasserie offers an impressive menu with a selection of meat, fish, pasta, salads and vegetarian choices that are sure to tempt all. There’s a daily chef’s market option, which takes cues from the season and may feature the likes of line-caught fish and grilled meat. The dining area is light and airy, with modern feel and a vibrant atmosphere, which is enhanced by the open kitchen where you can see your food being prepared.
When we visited, the restaurant was bustling, indicating that locals regard it as a great place to enjoy expertly prepared food in informal surrounds. I started with a well-presented, freshly prepared gravadlax in lemon and mustard marinade, while my partner opted for a classic prawn cocktail, full of juicy prawns and enhanced with mango. We followed with the house burger and rib-eye steak. These meats, grilled on an open fire, were succulent, flavoursome, tender and altogether delicious. They were served with the usual accompaniments, and the portions were generous. A pistachio crème brûlée with almond biscotti and tiramisu topped with crushed Amaretti finished off the meal perfectly.
For a sumptuous meal in an awe-inspiring venue, look no further than The Brasserie at Sopwell House.
