Parsons Corner, Shoeburyness, SS3 8UD

The charm of this authentic dog-friendly country inn is apparent from the moment you step inside. This historic listed timber-framed structure dates from circa 1650 and was formerly the Shoebury Post Office and Blacksmiths Shop along with the adjoining thatched Wheelwrights. Flagstone floors and oak beams create a traditional English feel and friendly ambience. Cosy up next to the roaring fire in winter or make the most of the outside seating area, which is perfect for a refreshing tipple in summer. This traditional pub delivers all year round, without loud music or televisions blaring.

Those dining can expect seasonally inspired menus that cater for all dietary requirements, including several vegan and gluten-free options. The restaurant menu features tempting options such as corn-fed chicken breasts with Dauphinoise potatoes, seasonal vegetables and wild mushroom and pesto cream sauce, alongside mouth-watering salmon and seafood en papillote with prawns, mussels, clams, white wine, fennel and dill. Visit on a weekday to sample the fantastic lunchtime set menu, with two courses priced at just £12 and three for £15. The bar menu features classic dishes such as battered cod and chips, Cumberland sausage and mash, and homemade lasagne. No matter what you choose, expect it to be made to order using fresh, local ingredients. The Angel Inn also presents a popular pie and pint night every Tuesday evening. The team also makes the restaurant available for private hire, with set menus and buffets designed to cater to your needs and make your event memorable.
