Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Moorfield Road, Duxford, CB22 4PP
Originally a 17th-Century coaching house, this historical pub has been serving fine food and ale for 350 years - and there is a good reason why. John Barleycorn prides itself on its excellent reputation for serving some of the most genuine home-cooked meals, not to mention some of the finest ales in the country. This fantastic establishment's ideal location makes it the perfect base for exploring and discovering East Anglia, whether you're going to the races, a concert at Audley End House or indeed visiting Cambridge itself for a spot of punting. Recently refurbished, the interior is fresh yet rustic. The staff pay attention to the little things that matter, and pride themselves on making you feel welcome. Why not enjoy a few drinks with some good friends, curl up with a book next to the roaring log fire or indulge in a homely and hearty meal. The menu features a choice of dishes to suit everyone - think terrine of Gressingham duck with toasted brioche and date purée, herb and shellfish risotto with pan-fried scallops and langoustines, finished with salmon roe and micro herbs, and beer-battered haddock with chips, crushed peas and tartare sauce. At the John Barleycorn they are proud of their suppliers (the menu features a detailed list of ingredients and their origins) and rightly so - every dish we ordered was exquisite. Trust me - this place is wonderful.
