Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Central to the village of Fen Ditton, Ancient Shepherds – near the River Cam – underwent a loving makeover to freshen up the smart traditional interior to fit with the history of the building. The relaxed bar area at the front provides ample room for catching up over drinks, while the other two rooms are ideal for dining and drinking away from the crowd. Of course, the honest, home-cooked fare has racked up great reviews from diners and continues to please all parties. Favourites from the evening menu include a salmon and courgette fishcake with sugar snaps and Béarnaise sauce to start, while crowd-pleasing mains of red mullet and king prawn linguine, and chicken, bacon and swede fricassee are nothing short of delicious. Although the menu changes seasonally, the quality of this home-cooked fare is consistent. If you’re visiting over the weekend, book a table for Sunday lunch. The beer garden should be your first port of call in sunny months.
