The George & Dragon
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
There are many traditional pubs to be found in Britain’s villages. However, with its huge range of fresh speciality seafood brought in regularly from Lowestoft quays and a selection of prime Scottish steaks, The George & Dragon is particularly unique.
The chefs take real pride in their coastal creations – and with good reason. The smoked duck with hoisin sauce and pan-fried prawns are real winners, as is the roasted hake fillet with seafood linguine and salad. Alongside the huge array of seafood, the menu also includes some fantastic land offerings, most notably the chargrilled rump, rib-eye and fillet steaks that’ll satisfy meat-lovers with ease. Make the most of the weekday two-for-one menu where diners can enjoy two courses for £10 per person. Keep your eyes peeled for the seafood specials every third Saturday night that often feature the best catch of the day, including lobsters, mussels and crab.
Additional specials are available throughout the week, often featuring a surprise catch or two from the trusty fish merchants. Afterwards, a homemade dessert will provide a great conclusion to whichever meal you choose. The bar, not to be outdone by the kitchen, is impressively stocked too, featuring an all-encompassing collection of almost 50 New World and vintage wines. Why not enjoy a bottle while relaxing by the inviting wood-burning stove? It’s the perfect way to warm up on a chilly day.
Located conveniently close to the city but with a pleasing village setting, this pub and restaurant is exactly the kind of establishment you hope to stumble upon during a walk, as well as the sort that you’ll go out of your way to visit.
