The Pack Horse
The Pack Horse is well known for its fine food, in addition to a cosy atmosphere – which includes a flickering fire – and friendly, attentive service. Although a traditional 16th-century pub, the menu sees British classics blend with modern cuisine to provide something for all tastes. Whether you feel like a relaxed meal from the bar menu or a treat from the à la carte, the result will be a feast worth savouring. Starters of salmon ravioli with samphire, tomato and tarragon-scented lobster bisque, and wood-fired mackerel terrine accompanied by aubergine, confit potato and garlic and herb mayo demonstrates the high-quality cuisine to be found here. Mains follow suit and may include the likes of pan-fried Gressingham duck breast with galette potato, mange tout and raspberry jus, and roasted chicken stuffed with Roquefort mousse, fondant, heritage carrots and Port jus. The same attentive treatment is given to the desserts – the trio of apple – crumble, Tatin and sorbet – sounds divine. On the bar menu you’ll find classics like spinach and ricotta cannelloni, beef Stroganoff and a small selection of burgers and pizza.
A function room and pub garden provide even more space for punters to pull up a pew and enjoy all that this place offers. Keep your eyes peeled for the ever-popular supper club, where the chef’s talent really shines.
