At The Rusty Gun, the focus is very much on the food. The head chef uses local ingredients where possible in his seasonally changing restaurant menu, and many of the ingredients and accompaniments are available to buy in the pub’s shop. As well as being a destination for sophisticated evening dining, The Rusty Gun is the perfect place for a spot of lunch after a country walk and offers a weekday Let’s Do Lunch menu with two courses for £11.95 or three for £14.95. This features hearty pub classics such as sausage and mash and a pulled pork bap, both made using meat reared on-site. Monday is rib night, Tuesday is award-winning pie night and Wednesday is steak night, all starting at 6pm. Booking is recommended for these and for The Rusty Gun’s hugely popular Sunday roast, which offers a choice of meat, including Rusty Gun pork or gammon, served with a wonderful array of veg.
A select offering of draught beers includes Rusty Gun bitter – specially made by the adjacent Old Cannon Brewery – complemented by a wide choice of New World wine available by the glass or bottle. In the colder months, food and drink can be enjoyed by the warmth of the open fire surrounded by cosy sheepskins, while in more clement weather it’s a pleasure to eat outdoors in the spacious garden with its attractive pergola.
