The Cabinet at Reed is a 16th-Century inn located near the popular town of Royston. The pub offers rustic cuisine - fresh from the field to the plate.

Set in beautiful grounds, The Cabinet boasts an eclectic menu, one that is based on sound cooking techniques. Inside the pub, red flagstone floors lead to a cosy bar area with sofas, rocking chairs and candles. All of these elements combine to form a relaxed atmosphere, without so much as a hint of pomposity. The pub serves a variety of intriguing delights, like butter-braised lamb shank with roasted pumpkin, or whole baked sea bass with smoked tomato sauce and olives. Furthermore, diners can choose from fresh game, meat or fish; salmon is smoked on site, and a range of desserts are available, including a real favourite - steamed jam roly-poly. The food served here is made using local produce, all sourced with real care and attention. A dedicated lunch menu is also available, and this allows guests to choose two courses for £12, or three courses for £17. From this, visitors can order delicacies such as mackerel pate, sausage and mash (from Julian Clark of Ware, famous for his sausages), and a chocolate brownie to finish off. A wide range of dishes ensures you will feel spoilt for choice.

Angus Martin, who co-owns The Cabinet with Tracey Hale, says the champion dish is the steak and Pride pie, served with red cabbage and mash. The very popular chicken and morel pie is also a popular choice. An extensive wine menu offers a fine accompaniment for any meal, and a choice of three ales - including London Pride and two rotating options - mean mouths are never dry. The Cabinet also caters for weddings, and the team are very happy to plan any event. Hertfordshire's dining scene is made all the better because of dining venues like The Cabinet at Reed. This place is fantastic
