The White Hart
The White Hart in Ampthill is an outstanding example of a pub in which historical features are showcased by a stylish, chic interior. The pub fi rst came into being in the 18th century as a popular coaching inn, but the Grade II listed building that houses it had been in existence for at least 200 years previously.
The original features have been lovingly preserved, so every wall reminds guests of the venue’s long history. Taking pride of place above the restored fireplace is a carefully kept wall mural of The Prince of Wales’ feathers that dates back to 1646, while magnificent Ruskin-esque decor in one of the dining rooms and 1930s-style flooring all serve to remind you that this is a setting to savour. You’ll find a variety of comfortable seating options in different areas around the pub, each designed for a unique purpose. Whether you’re looking for an intimate nook or a lively meeting place, you’ll easily find the perfect spot. Visitors feel at home here, but it’s also somewhere to head to and indulge, or celebrate a special occasion.
The food features a cavalcade of flavours, taking inspiration from warm Mediterranean climes. Dishes include hand-crafted Neapolitan pizzas baked in a traditional wood-burning oven, as well as deliciously juicy cuts of meat or fish grilled over charcoal, or cooked slowly over the embers of a Josper oven. There’s also a selection of imaginative and tasty seasonal salads alongside an extensive range of vegetarian dishes that captivate the tastebuds. For a special event, The Stables – with its original oak beams, open fire, private bar and direct access to the landscaped courtyard – can accommodate private parties of up to 100 guests.
The pub also boasts eight characterful guest rooms that have a true home-from-home environment. Intimate and relaxing, each well-equipped room has all you need in terms of convenience, including a smart television, Nespresso coffee machine, GHD hair straighteners and a Roberts radio. Situated in one of the most historic and interesting parts of Ampthill, The White Hart successfully marries contemporary style and convenience with historical charm and character, making it a wonderful destination.
