Donatello's - Ampthill
Celebrating 38 years in business, and founded by Mamma Antonia, Donatello’s is now run by one of her four sons and continues to serve authentic homemade Italian cuisine. The welcoming ambience and traditional decor give Donatello’s the feel of a laid-back pizzeria. Mamma Antonia started out making pizzas and these remain firm favourites, along with Italian classics such as pasta carbonara and spaghetti Bolognese. There is a large selection of tasty pizza, pasta and salad dishes as well as vegetarian and vegan options. You might start your meal with bread and olives, accompany it with a glass of Italian wine or beer, indulge your sweet-tooth with one of the delicious dolci (desserts) and finish with a shot of amaro or a punchy Italian coffee.
The Ampthill restaurant scooped the Independent Pizza Restaurant Gold Award at the PAPA Industry Awards 2016, and head chef Michael was a finalist for Keck Short Cut Pasta Chef of the Year at the 2017 PAPA Awards. Donatello’s was also shortlisted for the English Italian Awards’ Best Team 2017. In 2018 Donatello’s were finalists for the English Italian Awards’ Pizza Chef of the Year, and PAPA’s Pasta Chef of the Year. Home delivery is available on Friday and Saturday between 6pm and 10pm from the Dunstable branch, and takeaway can be ordered for collection from both restaurants during opening hours. Donatello’s can also create gluten-free dishes on request.
