The Black Bull, the newest addition to Paul and Karen Beer’s group of family-run pubs, has been given a new lease of life thanks to a recent refurbishment. Step inside and you’ll be met with a gorgeously rustic interior, complete with open fireplaces and stripped-back wooden floors, as well as a modern function room and comfy guest accommodation.
Quality food and drink is the order of the day here, so head to the relaxed restaurant to sample seasonal delights from the à la carte menu. The menu is filled with unfussy British dishes, and only carefully sourced quality produce found in the region is used. For example, meat is sourced from trusted farm suppliers and fish arrives from the quays at Lowestoft. With this in mind, you might like to try the beef and ale pie with mashed potatoes and vegetables or pan-fried duck with orange sauce, Dauphinoise potato and red cabbage. The comforting homemade fisherman’s pie with beautiful lobster sauce, and grilled salmon with spinach, Hollandaise sauce and a medley of vegetables are two other popular choices. As for dessert, expect to be treated to the likes of homemade poached berry meringue roulade or decadent sticky toffee pudding drizzled with hot toffee sauce – how very tempting. Take advantage of the set lunch menus and early bird menu from Monday to Thursday, where two can dine for just £16.
