The Woodman & Olive
20 Wormley West End, Broxbourne, EN10 7QN
Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Hertfordshire countryside is this delightful old inn which has been beautifully renovated to bring diners a stylish, modern twist on the building's original charm. Savvas and his family have worked hard to create a relaxed and thoroughly warm and welcoming ambience and a menu bursting with freshly prepared dishes with a Mediterranean influence. I strongly advise visiting this restaurant with a hearty appetite as the food is quite simply out of this world - you are going to want to savour every mouthful. My dining partner began with traditional homemade hummus, followed by a gorgeous vegetable moussaka. My choices of fresh calamari and a truly authentic kleftico were absolute perfection. As we watched various plates of gorgeous food waft passed us to other eager diners, we made a mental note to order the meze on our next visit so we can try as much as possible. As well as an extensive menu and special Sunday lunch, light bites are available every afternoon and there is also a very reasonably priced children's menu, making it a fantastic place for all the family, any day of the week. The service was impeccable as well as friendly and efficient; you can tell everyone at the restaurant loves what they do and are eager for you to enjoy your time here. We were also lucky enough to visit on Greek night which was fantastic fun, with a Greek band and lots of dancing - book ahead though, as the event is incredibly popular with those in the know. The Greek bazouki night (on the last Saturday of every month) is not the only form of entertainment The Woodman & Olive delivers. Diners can celebrate on the last Friday of every month with a swinging 80s night. There are also regular live tribute acts, featuring such stars as Amy Winehouse and Michael Bublé. Or leave your dancing shoes at home and test the grey cells at the quiz every Wednesday. Make sure you check the website regularly for further details and seasonal events.
