High Road, High Cross, Ware, Hertfordshire, SG11 1BT
A short drive out of Ware brings you to what must surely be Hertfordshire's most vibrant and engaging Indian restaurant. With an aim to exceed the expectations of their guests, Raj Villa offer the best in contemporary Indian cuisine delivered with passion, pride and energy.

Although a popular stop for a quick takeaway, you would be well advised to stay and partake in the delightful ambience and fantastic service offered by the convivial Raj Villa team.

Colourful garden lights greet you as you arrive in the spacious car park, and the vibrancy continues as you enter the bright and spacious open-plan restaurant. The bold use of primary colours lit with plenty of natural light creates a cheerfully sunny interior. With a comfortable bar and waiting area, you may be tempted to adjourn a while, enjoy a drink and soak up the atmosphere before taking your seats, perhaps at one of the exclusive tables in the raised central dining area. From classic favourites to original house specialities, the broad menu offers a full range of Indian cuisine. Head chef Daraz Chaudhury has a wealth of experience alongside top executive chefs at renowned restaurants across the West End of London, his cooking ranging from traditional Indian cuisine to modern contemporary dishes such as xacuti duck, lamb zaffrani and chicken chettinad.

After warming up with poppadoms and pickles, we tucked into our starters of succulent tandoori chicken and chot poti, a mildly spicy and richly satisfying chickpea and potato dish. Sizzling hot mains followed swiftly, served at our table with great flourish. A creamy lamb korma, coconut-spiced makhani and vegetable Goan curry - a medley of greens sautéed in a light and tangy lime-infused sauce - were accompanied by warm fluffy naan and perfectly steamed rice; a sumptuous feast indeed. Desserts (although we sadly didn't have room) include the trufito - a chocoholic's dream, comprising a chocolate ice cream bombe with a core of chocolate and chocolate sauce. There's an extensive range of ice creams, most notably the kulfi, a traditional Indian dairy ice cream made with fresh cream, available in pistachio and mango.

The Raj Villa offers the most upbeat service I have enjoyed for a while, the cheery young waiters going out of their way to engage the children, treating them to chocolates, smiles and lively attention. The delightful energy of the staff, alongside the bold, colourful decor, lively music and exciting, innovative dishes at excellent prices, makes the Raj Villa the perfect venue for an intimate meal for two or a fun family get-together
