Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
57 Cole Green Lane, Letty Green, Hertford, SG14 2NL
This deservedly popular pub and restaurant sits happily on the edge of Letty Green village, near the Lee Valley between Welwyn and Hertford. Inside, the cosy, informal restaurant has a wonderfully friendly atmosphere and a menu full of hearty, freshly cooked food. The Sunday roast platters are great for families, and ladies can enjoy three courses for £15.95 on Wednesdays. The bar offers a selection of real ales from local and guest brewers and the wine list includes some excellent crisp fresh whites, like the excellent Soleus organic sauvignon blanc from Chile, alongside soft juicy reds including a Wyndham shiraz from Australia. We chose a medium-bodied pinot noir; it was the perfect accompaniment to our starters of Portobello and oyster mushrooms in a wonderfully creamy sauce, and pork belly, slow-cooked with a tasty glaze. To follow, my juicy sirloin steak with chilli king prawns saw my companion turn green-eyed, although I felt much the same about her plate of fillet of salmon, crushed lemon potatoes and a beautifully buttery sauce - so much so that I had to try some for myself. To avoid any more food-envy, we went halves on the sharing platter of desserts, although I'd gladly have had it all to myself.
