Oscars Pizza Company
There’s a great deal more to Oscars Pizza Company than just the pizza – though ‘just’ does a disservice to their impressive range, which boasts everything from the classic Margherita to the spicy Enzo Ferrari pizza topped with mozzarella, tomato, pepperoni and chilli peppers. For a start, there’s the decor, which features contemporary lighting, huge gilt framed mirrors and fl amboyant abstract art created by the owner, award-winning artist Antonio Russo. The al fresco seating area, with a suntrap patio and palm trees, lends a Mediterranean feel to summertime dining. The atmosphere is lively and informal without being rushed or overly noisy. It’s no wonder that this family-run restaurant continues to be so popular with both locals and regulars from further afi eld. This is a restaurant that stands the test of time – Oscars Pizza Company was founded in 1996 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in November 2016.
Alongside the pizza offering, the extensive menu features classic British and Italian starters, such as deep-fried whitebait and grilled sardines topped with garlic and chilli, served with toasted bread. A large choice of pasta is available, with familiar favourite toppings – bolognese, carbonara, pesto – and many more, including the popular mussels with white wine and Gorgonzola. Risotto and salads also feature, as do tantalising specialities including steak, meatballs, veal escalope, and chicken and fi sh dishes. All the meat is freshly sourced from the local village butcher. If you’re tempted by a pud, try the homemade tiramisu or the banoffee pie – both are utterly divine. Classic desserts also include profiteroles and apple pie and a regularly changing selection of Italian ice creams and sorbets. Every dish that leaves the kitchen is packed full of authentic Italian flavour and is artistically presented, as is to be expected from the creative Russo family. Your meal can be accompanied by Italian and international wine and beer from an approachable list, and can be rounded off by an indulgent liqueur or Illy coffee.
Oscars also runs a takeaway service and offers a great range of deals. Children under ten have their own dedicated menu to choose from. Don’t forget to ask about the VIP diner’s club, as you’re sure to want to come back.
