Monday night and The Fishery is packed. No wonder - the comfortable outside seating area is perfect for a quiet drink, while inside there's an elegant restaurant. It was here we had our candlelit meal, watching the canal boats drifting by.

The seasonal menu offers fresh, locally sourced cuisine and is supplemented by ever-changing specials. Eventually, both equally pleased with our choices, we tucked into starters of slow-cooked pork belly with a delicious ginger beer glaze, black pudding and apple fritter, and black pearl scallops, noticeably fresh with a complementary tomato and olive dressing. 'The main event', as the next courses were aptly titled on the menu, featured the beyond-tender, slow-braised shoulder of delicately spiced Welsh lamb. Needless to say, my plate was cleared rather quickly. Placed across the table was a roasted duck breast. It's orange and Grand Marnier sauce made it a challenge to refrain from licking the plate clean.

Seasonality extends to the long and varied drinks list, which offers the fresh and fruity in summer and the spicy and warm in winter. So, whether you want to treat that special someone, shout the family Sunday lunch or fancy a tasting session at the wine club, The Fishery Inn's the way to go.
