For more than two decades, Boxmoor Lodge - a family-run, Grade II listed restaurant and hotel owned by Andrew Rickett - has offered a unique mix of contemporary fine dining and traditional hospitality. With easy access to the M25 and M1, as well as the London mainline service, Boxmoor Lodge is a convenient place to take a break. Those who want to stay a while can book one of the 25 double guest rooms, which are furnished in a classic style and boast modern facilities, including free Wi-Fi.

The innovative menus at the hotel's Conservatory Restaurant change monthly and are created by talented chefs Stuart Ambury and Christopher Cloonan, with a focus on supporting local suppliers. Meat is delivered from Smithfield Market and is butchered and hung on site to guarantee quality. Favourite starters include twice-baked cheese soufflé, tempura prawns, scallops, smoked haddock fishcakes and homemade duck liver parfait with chutney. For mains, try roast duck, rack of lamb, corn-fed chicken, pan-fried stone sea bass, rib-eye steak or wild mushroom and celeriac pie. Finish with hot chocolate fondant, classic lemon tart or the cheeseboard featuring some of Britain's finest artisan varieties. Visit the website to see the latest menus.

There is a delightful terrace for alfresco dining in the summer and a cocktail bar and lounge to get cosy in during the winter. Parties of 70 to 120 guests can be hosted in a marquee with its own cocktail bar and disco, and the hotel is licensed to hold civil wedding ceremonies. Offering value and quality, comfort and creativity, Boxmoor Lodge can always be relied upon, whatever the occasion
