The multi-million-pound purpose-built Centre for Hospitality and Food Studies – or CH&FS – was offi cially opened in 2002 by patron Gary Rhodes. Offering excellent facilities and first-rate training for hospitality students, the centre aims to give students a realistic sense of what it’s like to work in the hospitality industry. CH&FS offers guests the opportunity to contribute towards the success of the next generation of hospitality staff. The Colchester campus has two restaurants – Balkerne Restaurant and Colne Bistro. In the Balkerne Restaurant, dishes are created using seasonal, British ingredients, which are combined with European and Asian flavours and modern cooking techniques. For a contemporary dining experience, book for a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening, when the restaurant is run by level 2 front of house students, with level 3 students in the kitchen.
