86-87 Duke Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1JP
Behind an inconspicuous entrance on Duke Street in Chelmsford, you will find the bright and airy Zen Noodle Bar, a popular destination for lunchtime and evening dining. Open seven days a week, this trendy restaurant attracts couples, families and large groups in search of freshly made Oriental food at excellent prices.

The knowledgeable staff made us feel at home, and were keen to offer recommendations. After much deliberation over the starter selection, which included Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Malaysian and Vietnamese dishes (which can also be ordered as sides), we opted for the chicken gyoza, a type of deep-fried Japanese dumpling, and the traditional pork dumpling - they were so delicious we could have easily eaten another portion each. Next, our made-to-order main courses were as generous as they were tasty: the fried egg noodles with king prawns, pork, chicken and mixed vegetables, and the sambal chicken, a dish of stir-fried chicken in spicy sauce with steamed rice, were bursting with flavour.

Whatever the time of day, whatever the occasion, Zen Noodle Bar offers a simple yet superb range of Far Eastern cuisine - and it's safe to say we'll be back for more
