Lordship's Road, Writtle, Nr. Chelmsford, CM1 3RS
The Lordship Tearoom is the fourth and most recently opened tearoom by Wilkin & Sons, famous for their Tiptree jams and preserves. Set back from the road in the attractive village of Writtle - directly opposite the Agricultural College - The Lordship offers far more than afternoon tea, showcasing reasonably priced Sunday roasts, a takeaway service, a breakfast menu, and a lunchtime menu serving up delicious homemade soups, quiche and salads.

Locally produced ingredients feature prominently, with lunchtime specials including homemade ham hock terrine, local pigeon breast and Mersea sea bass. For a special treat, indulge in the traditional afternoon tea complete with sandwiches, freshly baked sultana scones with clotted cream and Tiptree preserves, and pastries from the company's own patisserie. If you're in the mood, why not plump for a beer from Farmers Ales in Maldon?

Visit the adjoining food hall and delicatessen to purchase top Tiptree products and locally sourced produce to take home. Feast your eyes upon prime English cheeses, mixed game paté and pies, as well as pork and poultry sourced from the nearby farms, Great Garnetts and Label Anglais - famed for their gourmet English chicken. Browse the lovely craft and homeware items on sale and a very pleasant outing is complete
