For a distinctly new experience of Indian food, visit Live Dosa and sample dishes of exceptional flavour and quality. Run by husband-and-wife team Ajikumar and Fazila, the venue is the first to serve authentic Keralan dishes in Chelmsford. Begin with a traditional dosa, a pancake made from ground rice and lentil batterr filled with vegetables, chicken or lamb. It is advisable to share one of these generously proportioned but irresistible starters served with coconut, onion chutneys and a spicy tamarind broth called sambhar. Ensuring I’d left room for the tempting choice of main dishes on offer, I opted for the vegetable sadhya comprised of various vegetable dishes, steamed rice, poppadoms, chutneys and a delicious flat bread called porota. This feast of a platter is traditionally served on special occasions and festivals in Kerala, and showcased a range of flavours and cooking techniques. My partner chose the fish curry made with kingfish steaks, cooked in a signature sauce with kokum, a tropical fruit native to India that grows on evergreen trees. As with most of the spices used in the Live Dosa kitchen, the kokum is sourced directly from the region. The flavour of the dish was outstanding and is a fine example of the cuisine that is unique to South India, a landscape typified by quiet backwaters and beautiful beaches.

The menu also includes dishes from the tandoor, biryanis and taster dishes. Live Dosa brings Keralan cuisine, customs and culture to a family-friendly environment.
