Open beam partitions and a cosy, country-style atmosphere hint at The Bellhouse's rich history - it was once a hunting lodge frequented by Henry VIII. Now, the rustic charm is combined with a modern menu to create a pub that is definitely worth a visit.

My choice of the heritage tomato salad with buffalo mozzarella, sliced avocado and sweet balsamic vinegar was a perfect appetiser. My companion was equally impressed with his locally sourced whitebait, which arrived alongside house tartare and a chunk of brown bread. For the main event, the sweet cherry tomatoes and tangy cheese sauce made my pesto and goat's cheese fusilli one of the best I've ever had. My friend chose traditional sausage and mash, which featured sausages made on-site and a rich onion gravy. We were tempted by the plethora of sides, including buttered samphire, sweet potato fries and crackling twigs with apple purée, but instead chose to save room for pudding. From the delectable selection we chose to share the refreshing Pimm's and raspberry trifle - delicious.

Service is consistently excellent at The Bellhouse, and the food is affordable, freshly prepared and always a delight. With guest ales, an extensive wine list and live acoustic music every Thursday evening, The Bellhouse has everything you could hope for
